Discovering your Purpose

Viktor E. Frankl famously said, “He who has a Why to live for can bear almost any How.” This powerful statement resonates deeply, highlighting the critical role of finding profound and meaningful reasons to persevere through life’s challenges.

However, it’s important to be cautious about the path you choose to follow. Proverbs 16:9 offers a reminder of divine guidance over human plans: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” This verse highlights that while we may have our own ideas and ambitions, it is ultimately God who directs our journey.

Tony Evans also cautions against misplaced priorities, emphasizing the risks of neglecting divine missions for personal ambitions: “To miss a kingdom assignment because we’ve become too caught up in our personal kingdom is one of the greatest tragedies we could ever face. Many people spend a large part of their lives climbing the ladder of success, only to discover at the end that it was leaning against the wrong wall.” Evans warns that in our pursuit of societal standards of success, we risk overlooking the purposes God has set for us. Achieving professional greatness and amassing wealth might seem fulfilling, but they can lead us away from completing the tasks God has called us to do.

Prayer: Father God, I trust in Your divine plan for me. Guide me as I strive to follow the path You have laid out for my life.

Overcoming Obstacles to Finding Purpose

Adversity is a constant in life, and as Frankl suggests, “Suffering in and of itself is meaningless; we give our suffering meaning by the way in which we respond to it.” Challenges not only shape us but also strengthen our spirit. Our response to adversity can lead to profound personal growth and peace.

When you align with your God-given purpose, you might encounter increased opposition from forces of evil and darkness. It is crucial during these times to remain steadfast in prayer and petition. Facing such challenges often serves as a confirmation that you are indeed on the path of your true calling.

Reflect: How am I using my gifts and resources to build God’s kingdom? Has God’s purpose for my life been revealed to me?
